Bentley's Torcal Shares Its Battery With a Porsche
The 888-PS Torcal borrows its 113-kWh, 800-volt pack from the Cayenne Electric, and Bentley's own release disagrees with itself on charging time while naming no price.

Bentley unveiled the Torcal, its first fully electric model, in London on Sept. 23, and the number the company put at the center of its own announcement, 888 PS in the range-topping S variant, is real but incomplete without the battery underneath it: a 113-kilowatt-hour pack built from 192 lithium-ion pouch cells at 800 volts nominal, according to Bentley's own release. That exact combination, 113 kWh at 800 volts, is not unique to Bentley. It is the same pack size and voltage architecture Porsche uses in the Cayenne Electric, a close sibling inside the Volkswagen Group.
What Bentley actually announced
The core Torcal produces 821 PS and 1,194 newton-meters of torque, reaching 60 mph in 3.3 seconds and a top speed of 155 mph, Bentley's release states. The sportier S variant, with launch control engaged, makes 888 PS and 1,350 Nm, hits 60 mph in 2.8 seconds and tops out at 162 mph. Both share the 113-kWh pack and a WLTP-rated range of up to 375 miles, or 600 kilometers. Dr. Frank-Steffen Walliser, Bentley's chairman and chief executive, called it "one of the best Bentleys ever" in the release, and Martin Page, the Torcal's product line director, said the car was "engineered with great care to ensure it remains a Bentley to its core, enhanced rather than dominated by technology." At five meters long, Bentley says the Torcal is its shortest four-door model, with a 460-liter trunk and a 90-liter front storage compartment.

The press release that disagrees with itself
Bentley's own numbers do not entirely agree with each other. One part of the release states a peak charging rate of 400 kilowatts with a 10-to-80-percent session taking 16 minutes; another part of the same release states "just under 20 minutes" for what Bentley describes as the identical charging scenario, a discrepancy Electrek flagged in its own coverage of the launch. Bentley's release separately claims roughly 100 miles of range added in a seven-minute top-up. None of the three figures, 16 minutes, 20 minutes and seven minutes for 100 miles, is mathematically inconsistent on its own, but the first two describe the same 10-to-80-percent session and cannot both be right.
The chassis hardware Bentley calls a first
The Torcal is the first Bentley built with fully active suspension, using adaptive two-valve dampers the company says can raise or lower each wheel independently and instantly in response to road input and driver commands. Electronic all-wheel steering turns the rear wheels up to five degrees, and Bentley pairs that with a turning circle of 11.1 meters despite the car's five-meter length. Standard brakes are iron discs, 420mm at the front axle and 370mm at the rear; buyers can specify a carbon-silicon-carbide setup instead, at 440mm front and 410mm rear, the same ceramic-composite material class used on track-focused cars to cut unsprung weight. None of those three systems, suspension, steering or brakes, is new to the automotive industry, but Bentley is presenting all three together as the first time its own badge has carried them, on a car whose weight the 113-kWh battery adds to rather than subtracts from.
What Bentley didn't say
The release names no price and no delivery date, for either variant. It gives no EPA range figure, only the WLTP number, and WLTP tests typically produce higher figures than the EPA's stricter cycle for a vehicle of comparable weight. Bentley disclosed brake rotor diameters to the millimeter and a turning circle to a tenth of a meter, but none of that detail extends to what a buyer will actually pay or when the car reaches a dealership. That is the same pattern that has run through Qualcomm's robotics acquisitions in 2026: PickNik Robotics' purchase price has never been disclosed either, and both companies have chosen to publish extensive technical detail around a deal or a launch while withholding the number that would let anyone else evaluate it economically.

What would change the read
A shared battery platform with Porsche is not, by itself, a knock against the Torcal; Volkswagen Group has built platform-sharing into every brand under it for two decades, and the humanoid-robotics makers this site has covered show the same pattern of reusing costly subsystems across product lines to make the economics work. What would change the read here is whichever numbers Bentley releases next: a confirmed EPA range meaningfully below 375 miles would matter to American buyers specifically, and a price that puts real distance between the Torcal and the gasoline Bentayga would tell a clearer story than the horsepower figures do about who Bentley expects to buy its first EV. The charging-time discrepancy is a smaller tell of the same thing: a company that lists brake rotor diameters to the millimeter and a turning circle to a tenth of a meter is not sloppy by habit, so a release that can't settle on 16 minutes or 20 for its own headline charging claim suggests the number was still moving after the rest of the document was locked. Whether Bentley corrects it quietly or leaves both figures standing will say something about how far along the Torcal's real-world testing actually is.
