Agility Prices Digit 5 at $200,000, or $8,500 a Month
The fifth-generation robot lifts 40 percent more than its predecessor and adds an Nvidia-built safety system, but early customers will not get one until 2027.
What changed in the legs and the battery
Agility Robotics unveiled Digit 5 on Sept. 15, the fifth generation of its general-purpose humanoid robot and, the company said, the first version engineered for what it calls cooperatively safe work: operating next to people on a warehouse or factory floor without a cage around it. The robot weighs 284 pounds (129 kg), stands 5 feet 11 inches, and reaches 7.2 feet overhead, up from 5.5 feet on Digit 4, according to Agility's announcement.
New cycloidal actuators in the legs, a gear design chosen for its ability to survive repeated impact loads, let Digit 5 lift 50 pounds (22.7 kg) over and over, 40 percent more than Digit 4 could manage, Agility said. A 90-minute battery that recharges in 9 minutes gives the robot a 10-to-1 run-to-charge ratio, up from 2-to-1 on the prior generation, which the company said lets it work more than 20 hours inside a 24-hour shift. That is a scheduling number as much as a battery number: the variable that decides uptime on a warehouse floor is not how long the pack lasts but how much of a shift is spent parked at a charger, and Agility's answer for Digit 5 is well under two hours a day.
What $8,500 a month buys, and what it does not yet
Agility listed illustrative pricing of $8,500 a month under a robots-as-a-service contract, or about $200,000 to buy Digit 5 outright, according to reporting from The Robot Report, which is not in the press release itself. Both numbers describe a machine nobody outside Agility can order yet. Early access starts in the first half of 2027; general availability for manufacturing, warehouse and distribution customers follows at the end of that year, with the European Union and the United Kingdom added once the robot gets a CE mark. Announced and shipped are different words here, and the 15 months between Tuesday's unveiling and general availability is the gap between them.
The RaaS price implies about $102,000 a year, which undercuts the purchase price only if a customer keeps the robot under roughly two years; run it longer and buying outright is cheaper, the same math that applies to any equipment lease. Agility did not say how utilization, insurance or the swappable ISO-mount end-effectors change that price, and the release does not break out a separate price for the safety hardware NVIDIA is providing.
The safety pitch runs through Nvidia, not just Agility
Digit 5's safety system pairs Agility's own detection software, which tracks people with cameras and audio and can make the robot stop, step back or drop into a seated position, with an independent safety controller running on Nvidia's IGX Thor hardware and its Halos Core software. Agility is the first company to ship a product built on Halos for Robotics, which Nvidia announced in June. "Safely operating around people and assets is what moves humanoid robots from pilots to industrial deployments at scale," said Deepu Talla, Nvidia's vice president of robotics and edge AI, in Agility's announcement.
Agility also said Digit 5 is the first humanoid robot to pass an independent OSHA field evaluation for industrial safety standards, a claim that appears only in the company's own release and that neither OSHA nor a third party has confirmed in anything The Terminal could find. Treat it as a vendor claim until the evaluator or the agency publishes something that says otherwise.
The $300 million backlog sits inside a $2.5 billion deal
Agility said it has logged more than $300 million in multi-year customer orders as of May 2026, from GXO, Schaeffler, Amazon and Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada, and that Digit 4 has already run more than 65,000 operational hours, including a GXO deployment handling totes at roughly 98 percent accuracy. Both figures describe Digit 4, the robot Digit 5 replaces; Agility gave no comparable operating-hours number for Digit 5 itself, because it has none yet.
The backlog figure also comes with a hedge Agility itself put in writing: the $300 million is orders, not booked revenue, and is "contingent on contractual milestone satisfaction," according to the Form 425 Agility and Churchill Capital Corp XI filed with the SEC the same day. That filing covers Agility's merger with the blank-check company Churchill Capital Corp XI, a deal that StockTitan reported values Agility at $2.5 billion and that still needs a Churchill shareholder vote. A $300 million pipeline, milestone-gated, is a reasonable number to build a factory around; it is not the same claim as $300 million already collected, and the two get conflated in coverage of deals like this one more often than they should.
Agility is building toward that pipeline with a 70,000-square-foot plant in Salem, Oregon, designed for 10,000 units a year at full production and more than 500 workers, plus engineering offices in Pittsburgh and a hardware site in Fremont, California, that opened in July. None of those numbers is a shipped-unit count. What would change the read here is Agility publishing an actual 2027 delivery number against the 10,000-unit design capacity; until then, the capacity figure describes a building, not an order book.
Agility is not alone in selling perception and manipulation hardware into the same industrial floors. Lyte, which raised a Series C in September to sell sensor silicon for inspection and logistics robots, is a reminder that Digit 5's safety case rests on a stack of components, cameras, IMUs and now Nvidia's IGX Thor, that Agility buys or licenses rather than builds end to end. The same dependency shows up on the power side: humanoid deployments at the scale Agility is promising eventually run into the same rack-power constraints reshaping AI datacenters, even if a warehouse floor is a smaller draw than a training cluster.
