Urban Company's InstaHelp Lost ₹279 on Each Order While Customers Paid About ₹114 for It
InstaHelp booked ₹20.5 crore of revenue and an adjusted EBITDA loss of ₹174 crore in the September quarter, and the board has approved raising ₹2,500 crore.
Urban Company's quick household-help service, InstaHelp, lost ₹174 crore at the adjusted EBITDA level in the quarter ended September 2026 on operating revenue of ₹20.5 crore, according to Inc42's report of the company's results. The company's consolidated net loss was ₹182.5 crore, up 208% from ₹59.3 crore in the same quarter a year earlier.
The loss per InstaHelp order was ₹279, Inc42 reported, an improvement of 19% from ₹346 in the previous quarter. Orders fulfilled rose 63% from the previous quarter to 6.2 million, and net transaction value, the amount customers pay, was ₹71 crore. Dividing the second figure by the first gives about ₹114 per order, so Urban Company is losing roughly 2.4 times what the customer pays each time.
One unit against the rest of the business
Consolidated operating revenue was ₹537.3 crore, up 41% from ₹380 crore a year earlier but almost flat on the ₹528.3 crore of the previous quarter, about 1.7% higher. Total expenses were ₹745.7 crore, up 61.5% from ₹461.7 crore.
Outside InstaHelp, the company reported adjusted EBITDA of ₹30 crore. Subtract the ₹174 crore InstaHelp loss and the group figure is the ₹144 crore loss the company reports. The company calls the InstaHelp spending "deliberate," in Inc42's account.

A year ago the unit was smaller by a wide margin. In the September 2025 quarter, Outlook Business reported, Insta Help had an EBITDA loss of ₹44 crore, so the loss has grown about fourfold in 12 months. The same Outlook Business article put Urban Company's own quarterly loss at ₹59.3 crore, which matches the base Inc42 uses for the 208% rise.
What the ₹2,500 crore is for
Urban Company's board approved raising ₹2,500 crore through a preferential allotment or a private placement of equity shares, Inc42 reported. The company said the money would strengthen InstaHelp's leadership, fund investment across its three segments and pursue potential acquisitions.
The use of proceeds is split three ways, so it is wrong to read the whole sum as InstaHelp funding. Even so, ₹2,500 crore is about 14 quarters of InstaHelp losses at this quarter's ₹174 crore, a rate the company says is improving per order but which rose in total.
The board's approval is not a closed raise. No investor, price or timetable appears in Inc42's report.
The other segments are paying for it
India consumer services excluding InstaHelp grew net transaction value 26.3% to ₹963 crore, with net revenue up 28% to ₹336 crore. The international business in the UAE and Singapore is profitable, with transaction value up 66% to ₹267 crore. Native, the in-house appliance brand, grew transaction value 35% to ₹132 crore and held its adjusted EBITDA loss at ₹9 crore, 6.8% of its transaction value against 9% before.
The company said InstaHelp accounts for about 45% of new users in the micro-markets where it operates. That is the claim the loss has to be weighed against, and it is the company's own figure. Shares closed 2.63% higher at ₹158.3 on the BSE.
The next checkpoint is the December-quarter result, when Native's festive demand moves into the numbers and InstaHelp's loss per order shows whether ₹279 keeps falling.
