Maven Robotics Raised $100 Million Series A With Eight Robots in the Field
The Santa Clara startup says it will reach 100,000 autonomous operating hours by year-end, a figure its disclosed fleet cannot produce in the time left.
Maven Robotics announced a $100 million Series A on Sept. 10, led by RoboStrategy with LocalGlobe, Vine Ventures and XTX Ventures participating. The company runs up to eight robots for customers, TechCrunch reported, and plans to build 250 third-generation units with the money.
Neither the company's announcement nor TechCrunch gives a valuation. The round was announced, not described as closed in tranches, and no filing was cited. Santa Clara-based Maven, founded in 2024, has not named a customer beyond a "Fortune 250 consumer packaged goods company", according to its own release on GlobeNewswire.
What the eight robots do
Maven's wheeled robots move at 10 miles per hour and have two arms rated to lift 30 kilograms, with vacuum grippers, TechCrunch reported. They are doing mixed-case palletizing, which means stacking boxes of different sizes onto a pallet. The company claims 99 percent or better uptime on shifts of up to 16 hours a day. Those are Maven's figures; no independent measurement was cited.
Chief Executive Hamza Derbas, who spent nine years in Apple's special projects group according to TechCrunch, said: "We're grounded in solving one customer problem at a time." His brother Khalid Derbas is the chief financial officer. The release says the company is targeting palletizing and tote handling, which it sizes at an $80 billion market, before moving into material handling and assembly.
The hours claim
The release says Maven expects to reach 100,000 autonomous operating hours by the end of 2026 and 1 million by the end of 2027. The two disclosed numbers do not obviously fit together.
Eight robots working 16 hours a day produce 128 robot-hours a day. Over the 92 days from Oct. 1 to Dec. 31 that is 11,776 hours. Reaching 100,000 hours by year-end would need either a much larger fleet than eight, or a count that includes testing hours accumulated before the customer deployments. The company has not said which. The figures are The Terminal's arithmetic from Maven's own numbers, not a Maven statement.
| Maven claim | Figure | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Series A | $100 million | Company release |
| Robots in the field | Up to 8 | TechCrunch |
| Planned third-generation build | 250 units | TechCrunch |
| Hours target, end of 2026 | 100,000 | Company release |
| Hours target, end of 2027 | 1 million | Company release |
What $100 million buys across 250 robots
Dividing the round by the planned build gives $400,000 per robot, but that overstates the unit cost, because the money also pays for a fourth-generation design and for expansion into new tasks. The same division was useful for Agility Robotics' Digit 5 orders, where $300 million covered fewer than 1,000 robots, and for Metra's battery trains, which came to $19.25 million each. Maven has disclosed no price or leasing terms, so no revenue multiple can be calculated.
TechCrunch compared Maven with Agility, which is going public through a $2.5 billion SPAC, and Derbas called bipedal designs unnecessary and costly for industrial workflows. TechCrunch also named the risk that frontier labs building general physical A.I. models could make a task-by-task approach look narrow.
The next number that would settle this is a customer name or a deployed-robot count above eight. Maven's year-end hours total is the first test of its own target.
