Gimlet Labs Raises $300 Million, Its Second Act After Pixie
Zain Asgar's multi-silicon inference startup hit a $3 billion valuation five months after disclosing an $80 million Series A, without ever stating that round's own price.
Gimlet Labs raised $300 million in a Series B round announced Sept. 4, valuing the company at $3 billion, according to a report on the round from TheSaaSNews. Andreessen Horowitz led the round, joined by Sapphire Ventures, M12, Arm, Menlo Ventures and Factory. The company has now raised $392 million in total, up from $92 million before this round.
That prior figure matters more than the new one. Gimlet disclosed an $80 million Series A on March 23, 2026, led by Menlo Ventures with Factory, Eclipse Ventures, Prosperity7 and Triatomic participating, according to TechCrunch's coverage of that round. Neither Gimlet nor its investors said what valuation that $80 million bought, which means the $3 billion figure now circulating has no disclosed starting point to measure it against, an omission unusual enough at this funding size that it is itself worth noting.
The founder has done this exact trade before
Chief executive Zain Asgar, a Stanford adjunct professor, previously co-founded Pixie Labs with Michelle Nguyen, Omid Azizi and Natalie Serrino. Pixie launched with a $9 million Series A from Benchmark and was acquired by New Relic two months later, in December 2020, according to TechCrunch's account of Asgar's history. Pixie's Kubernetes observability technology was later contributed to the Cloud Native Computing Foundation under the Apache 2.0 license. Gimlet is a different kind of company, built to run for years rather than sell in months, but Asgar's one-time exit gives him a credential most first-time inference-infrastructure founders raising at this valuation do not have.
What the money is actually for
Gimlet's product, Gimlet Cloud, splits a single AI inference job across GPUs, CPUs and other chip types simultaneously rather than running the whole workload on one type of hardware, working with silicon from Nvidia, AMD, Intel, Arm, Cerebras and d-Matrix, according to TechCrunch. The company says the approach delivers 3 to 10 times the speed at the same cost and power draw, a claim The Terminal could not independently verify. Gimlet publicly launched in October with eight-figure revenue and has since tripled its customer base, per TheSaaSNews, and it counted one of the top three frontier AI labs and one of the top three cloud providers as customers as of March, according to Gimlet's own Series A announcement, without naming either.

Gimlet's own math implies the seed round was about $12 million, since $92 million in total funding before the Series B minus the disclosed $80 million Series A leaves that remainder unaccounted for by name; neither TechCrunch nor Gimlet has published the seed round separately. The company's headcount stood at 30 people as of March, a small team relative to the $664 billion GPU-delivery backlog Oracle alone is carrying at the hyperscale end of the same inference market Gimlet is trying to make more efficient. Asgar told TechCrunch in March: "You're wasting hundreds of billions of dollars because you're just leaving idle resources."
The unanswered number
Gimlet's Series B announcement did not include the Series A's valuation, a gap that stands out next to peers like Ayar Labs, which had to publicly separate its own $5 billion headline number from a secondary stock sale rather than new capital. Whether Gimlet's silence on its Series A price is a negotiating choice or simply a smaller round that did not clear a headline threshold, the company has not said, and the next test of the $3 billion mark will be whether Gimlet's customer list grows enough by its next round to justify a number nobody outside the company can check against a prior one today.
