Crusoe's $3.9B Round Is an Initial Close, Not a Final One
The AI data center builder's own announcement says the Series F, which triples its valuation from October, has only had its first tranche close, and its investor list now includes Fidelity and Robinhood's venture fund.

Crusoe, which builds and operates data centers for AI workloads, said Thursday it completed "the initial closing of its anticipated $3.9 billion Series F funding round, at a $30.9 billion post-money valuation," according to the company's own announcement. The word "initial" matters: Crusoe is describing the round as still open, not closed, ten months after its last one.
The round was co-led by Atreides Management, Mubadala Capital and Valor Equity Partners. Earlier reporting from TechCrunch on Sept. 3 had the round pegged at roughly $3 billion and a $30 billion valuation before it closed; the figures Crusoe announced two weeks later, $3.9 billion and $30.9 billion, are both larger, evidence the round grew during syndication rather than shrinking, which is the more common pattern when a deal is oversubscribed.
The investor list gets unusual
Alongside Nvidia, Founders Fund, GIC, Qatar Investment Authority, Radical Ventures and TPG, Crusoe's investor list this round includes Fidelity Management & Research Company, T. Rowe Price, Tiger Global, ARK Invest, Salesforce Ventures and Robinhood Ventures Fund I, according to the company's announcement. Public-market mutual fund managers taking private stakes ahead of a listing is typically a signal that a company expects to go public within a few years; Axios reported Aug. 17 that Crusoe had met with bankers including Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley about a potential IPO, a detail Crusoe's own Series F announcement does not mention.
What the money buys
Chief executive Chase Lochmiller said the round "lets us scale every layer for the world's most ambitious AI builders," and that the company's goal is "controlling the infrastructure from electrons to tokens." Crusoe says it holds more than $140 billion in total contracted value, more than 6 gigawatts of gross contracted capacity, and 1 gigawatt already operational, including the Abilene, Texas campus that supplies OpenAI. The company signed a five-year, $13 billion cloud contract with quantitative trading firm Jane Street, according to TechCrunch, which cited Bloomberg's reporting of the deal. Capital from the new round will also fund Crusoe Spark, a modular AI data center Crusoe manufactures itself and trucks to sites near available power, rather than building only large fixed campuses.
Crusoe says cloud bookings grew 20 times year over year through the first part of 2026, and that its Managed Inference product, which sells AI model inference rather than raw GPU capacity, has passed $100 million in annualized revenue. The company was founded in 2018 as a business that used flared natural gas to power cryptocurrency mining before pivoting to AI infrastructure.
What Crusoe didn't say
Crusoe's announcement does not state when the Series F will have its final close, nor does it break out how much of the $3.9 billion has actually landed in the company's accounts versus been committed. It also does not confirm the IPO discussions Axios reported. The next disclosed event to watch is whether Crusoe announces a final close of the round, and at what size, since "initial closing" by definition leaves room for the total to grow again.
Crusoe's valuation across three rounds
- Series D (Dec. 2024)2.8 $ billions
- Series E (Oct. 2025)10 $ billions
- Series F (Sept. 2026)30.9 $ billions

| Round | Amount raised | Valuation | Lead investors |
|---|---|---|---|
| Series D | $600 million | $2.8 billion | Founders Fund |
| Series E | $1.38 billion | $10 billion | Not disclosed |
| Series F | $3.9 billion | $30.9 billion | Atreides, Mubadala, Valor |

Crusoe added roughly $21 billion of valuation in the ten months since its October 2025 round, a pace that dwarfs the chip-side AI infrastructure bets Positron AI and Intel are making on the same demand curve.
