Cosmoserve Raises $6 Million Seed After Its First Payload Failed to Deploy in Orbit
Inc42 and Entrackr disagree on the lead investor, and the round carries no disclosed valuation, revenue or paid customer.

Cosmoserve Space, a Hyderabad spacetech startup founded in June 2025, raised a $6 million seed round months after the robotic capture petals on its first payload failed to deploy in orbit.
The two outlets that reported the round disagree on who led it. Inc42 says Japan-based Rebright Partners led, with Aranya Holdings and Naandi Ventures joining. Entrackr lists the same three as new investors and names no lead. Existing backers AUM Ventures and Shakti VC returned in both accounts.
What the $6 million adds up to
Cosmoserve has raised more than $9 million since inception. Entrackr reports a $3.17 million pre-seed in September 2025, so the seed is about 1.9 times the earlier round. Inc42 says the valuation has doubled since that pre-seed, but neither outlet gives the figure, so the round cannot be priced against anything. Revenue is also undisclosed.
| Round | Date | Amount |
|---|---|---|
| Pre-seed | September 2025 | $3.17 million |
| Seed | November 2026 | $6 million |
| Total raised | to date | More than $9 million |
Entrackr says the money goes to Base 1, technology demonstrations and two upcoming missions. Inc42 puts the cost of Base 1, a facility in Hyderabad, at around ₹6 crore. It includes an orbital rendezvous capture lab, an ISO Class 8 clean room, a mission control centre and a microgravity simulation platform. Union Minister of State Jitendra Singh and Telangana IT Minister D Sridhar Babu attended the opening, according to Inc42.
The July flight that did not work
Cosmoserve's first payload, Mission Embrace, flew in July 2026 on Skyroot Aerospace's Vikram-1 rocket. The robotic capture petals did not deploy as planned. Inc42 reports the company links the failure to the thermal release mechanism and low temperatures, and Entrackr says the flight still produced data for further development.
Founder Chiranjeevi Phanindra, who Inc42 says spent close to 15 years at ISRO, is therefore raising a seed round on a payload that did not complete its main task. The company's pitch rests on a Dual Spacecraft Architecture, in which two spacecraft service multiple satellites. Entrackr says Cosmoserve estimates this could cut servicing cost from about $10 million to under $1 million per satellite. That is the company's own estimate, and no customer has paid it.
What 2027 and 2028 require
Inc42 reports letters of intent from four satellite operators: one in the US, one in Europe and two in India. A letter of intent is not a contract, and Phanindra told Inc42 the company wants one paid customer before commercial operations begin. The plan has tech demonstrations finished by 2027 and commercial operations from 2028.
The 2027 list in Entrackr includes a reflight of Mission Embrace, microgravity flights and a full-scale debris capture demonstration. Inc42 says that demonstration would approach a dead satellite within 10 metres, which the company says would be a world record. About 60 percent of mission components are sourced locally, and Cosmoserve says it wants that share to rise.
Other Indian hardware rounds are useful comparisons: see Ottonomy's Rs 40.6 crore round against Airbound's Series A, and for a consumer business scaling on revenue, Eggoz's FY26 results.
The next test is Embrace-2, which Inc42 says is expected in the coming months. Its result will show whether the petal fix holds before any of the four letters of intent turns into a purchase order.
