Astrotalk Books ₹222 Crore Profit on ₹1,823 Crore Revenue While Advertising Spend Rises to ₹823 Crore
Entrackr and Inc42 both report audited FY26 numbers, but the ₹296 crore pre-tax profit Inc42 gives does not follow from the ₹1,576 crore of expenses Entrackr lists.
Astrotalk, the Indian astrology consultation app, reported a net profit of ₹222 crore for FY26 on operating revenue of ₹1,823 crore, against ₹22 crore on ₹1,176 crore a year earlier, according to audited consolidated statements covered on October 28 by Entrackr and Inc42. Profit rose about tenfold and revenue 55%, in a year when the company also spent 144% more on advertising.
| Line, ₹ crore | FY25 | FY26 |
|---|---|---|
| Operating revenue | 1,176 | 1,823 |
| Net profit | 22 | 222 |
| Advertising and promotion | 337 | 823 |
| Employee benefits | 143 | 63 |
| Overseas revenue | 236 | 621 |
Where the money went in FY26
Advertising and business promotion was ₹823 crore, 45% of operating revenue and, per Entrackr, 52.2% of total expenses. Legal and professional costs were ₹550 crore, up 6.8% from ₹515 crore; Entrackr says that line includes payments to astrologers. Those two lines together are ₹1,373 crore, or 75% of operating revenue.

Employee benefits fell 56%, from ₹143 crore to ₹63 crore, and ESOP cost fell from ₹72 crore to ₹9 crore. That ₹80 crore drop in staff cost equals 40% of the ₹200 crore rise in net profit, and ₹63 crore of it is the ESOP line alone. The cost of share awards is a non-cash charge, so the profit jump is partly an accounting swing rather than operating improvement.
Two profit figures that do not reconcile
Entrackr lists total expenditure of ₹1,576 crore. Operating revenue less that is ₹247 crore. Inc42 reports profit before tax of ₹296 crore, up from ₹75 crore. The ₹49 crore difference would have to be income from outside operations, and neither outlet itemises other income. Net profit of ₹222 crore against ₹296 crore before tax implies ₹74 crore of tax, 25% of the pre-tax figure.
Entrackr gives an EBITDA margin of 13.83% and a return on capital employed of 30.8%. It does not give a prior-year comparison for either. Inc42 adds that operating cash flow rose 21% to ₹229 crore, which is a closer check on the profit than the margin is, since it sits above ₹222 crore.
Overseas growth and the store
Overseas revenue rose from ₹236 crore to ₹621 crore and from 20% to 34% of the total. It added ₹385 crore of the ₹647 crore of growth, 59%. Domestic revenue was ₹1,202 crore, up 28%. Consultations over chat, calls and video were ₹1,657 crore, about 91% of operating revenue. Astrotalk Store, the e-commerce line launched in November 2024, reached ₹166 crore from ₹37 crore.
Compare Meesho's quarterly loss, where a headline percentage hid a flat sequential number: here the ratio to read is advertising to revenue, which was 29% in FY25 and 45% in FY26.
Funding, the buyback and the unicorn label
Inc42 puts Astrotalk's total outside funding at $34 million, from investors including Left Lane Capital and Elev8 Venture Partners, and says it funded FY26 from internal cash with no new external capital. The company reached unicorn status in August 2026 through an ESOP buyback at a $1 billion valuation, which means the figure was set by a share repurchase and not by a new investor pricing a round. Year-end cash and investments were ₹917 crore, up 41.1% from ₹650 crore, in Inc42's count; Entrackr's narrower line for cash and bank balances is ₹141 crore.
Puneet Gupta is chief executive and Anmol Jain the other co-founder; the company was founded in 2017. The next test is whether advertising holds near 45% of revenue as overseas grows. The FY27 statements, which on the FY26 timetable would surface around October 2027, will show it. Another Indian company whose valuation rests on an unusual mechanism is covered in Live2.ai's ₹130 crore round, where a secondary of undisclosed size sits inside the headline.
