Lucid Built 2,954 Cars in Q3 and Sold 3,806, Draining Its Lot
Production fell 38 percent from the second quarter as Lucid works off a $1.38 billion inventory pile with no 2026 volume target left.

Lucid produced 2,954 vehicles and delivered 3,806 in the third quarter of 2026, the company said in a Form 8-K exhibit published Oct. 5. Production fell 38 percent from the second quarter's 4,774, according to Electrek.
The filing is short and carries no year-ago or prior-quarter comparisons. Electrek supplied them: deliveries were down 7 percent from the third quarter of 2025 and 4 percent from the second quarter of 2026.

What the 8-K says about inventory
Lucid wrote that deliveries exceeded production "as the company continued to execute its planned inventory reduction." The filing also says the second shift at the AMP-1 plant in Casa Grande, Arizona, was eliminated in June, and that demand for the Gravity SUV "continued to regain momentum." It gives no Gravity unit count, so that line cannot be checked against anything.
The gap is the story. Over the first nine months Lucid built 13,228 vehicles and delivered 10,852, per Electrek, which leaves 2,376 more cars built than sold. Electrek reports that inventory stood at $1.38 billion in June, up from $1.11 billion six months earlier.

The cost side of the reset
Chief Executive Silvio Napoli took over in June, the same month Lucid cut 18 percent of its workforce, per Electrek. The company withdrew its 2026 target of 25,000 to 27,000 vehicles; with 13,228 built after nine months, that range would have needed 11,772 to 13,772 in the final quarter, about four to five times the third-quarter rate.
Lucid's own targets, as Electrek reports them, are a $1.4 billion improvement in 2026 cash flow, a $600 million to $800 million inventory reduction, about $500 million of lower capital spending and about $200 million of lower operating cost. The Cosmos model has slipped to the second half of 2027.
Electrek wrote that Lucid is "losing about $1 billion a quarter", which is its own estimate rather than a figure from the 8-K. Rivian delivered 19,248 vehicles in the same quarter, nearly five times Lucid's output of 2,954, according to Electrek.
Why the denominator matters
The number that matters here is not deliveries but utilisation. A plant that builds 2,954 cars in a quarter after dropping a shift is running far below the rate its fixed costs were sized for, and every unsold car carries working capital that a sell-down releases only once. The 852-car gap is a one-time source of cash, not a run rate. If Lucid keeps delivering 3,800 a quarter against production of 2,954, the lot empties in a matter of quarters, and then production has to rise to meet demand or deliveries fall to meet production.
Compare that with Micron's 2027 output from its Idaho fabs, which is already committed. Lucid has the opposite problem: finished goods without buyers. Figure's BMW fleet is a reminder that deployed units, not announced capacity, decide whether a plant earns its keep. The line that would change this read is a fourth-quarter production figure at or above deliveries, which would mean demand has stopped being the constraint on the inventory plan. Lucid holds its earnings call on Nov. 9 at 2:30 p.m. Pacific, and shareholders can submit questions from Oct. 23 to Nov. 6.
