Epson's First Cobot Ships Without a Price Tag
The AX6 lifts 6 kilograms across a 900-millimeter reach and clears ISO Class 5 cleanrooms, the same standard Epson's electronics customers already work under.

Epson Robots began shipping the AX6 on Sept. 22, its first collaborative six-axis robot arm, built to work inside ISO Class 5 cleanrooms without a cage around it.
The company detailed the launch in a post on its own news site the same day. The AX6 lifts up to 6 kilograms across a 900-millimeter reach, according to a separate write-up in The Robot Report, wrapped in a carbon-fiber structure rated IP54 against dust and splashes and powered by either 100-240V AC or 48V DC.
What the Epson AX6 cobot ships with
Rick Brookshire, Epson's director of product and robot development, said in the company's announcement that "collaborative robots have lowered the barriers to entry for many new robot users by simplifying programming and integration, while enabling new applications where space and user interaction are critical." Programming runs through Epson's AX Portal software, which needs no code for a basic setup, with a Python environment available for more advanced work, the company said.
| AX6 spec | Value |
|---|---|
| Payload | 6 kg (13.2 lb) |
| Reach | 900 mm (35.4 in) |
| Cleanroom rating | ISO Class 5 (ISO 14644-1) |
| Ingress protection | IP54 |
| Power input | 100-240V AC or 48V DC |
| Price | Not disclosed |
James Shimano, an Epson Robots product manager, said the arm's weight and power draw were built "with AMR integration in mind," meaning it is designed to ride on an autonomous mobile robot that carries it between stations rather than staying bolted to one spot.
Two cobot makers, two withheld prices
Epson did not publish a price for the AX6, and it is not the only vendor doing that this quarter: Universal Robots also withheld pricing on its Gen 7 line, the category's dominant name and the one Epson is now entering. Neither the AX6's 6-kilogram payload nor its 900-millimeter reach breaks new ground against that lineup; both figures sit in the middle of what cobots already do, not at either edge of it.
What Epson is selling instead is the ISO Class 5 rating and the customer list behind it. The company has sold more than 250,000 robots worldwide as of April 2026 and calls itself the leader in SCARA arms used across aerospace, automotive, biotechnology and electronics assembly, according to The Robot Report. The AX6 extends that installed base into work cells where a person now stands beside the machine instead of behind a fence, without Epson having to build a second sales channel from scratch.
The gap a buyer still has to fill in
Epson said the AX6 is available now through its distributor network, but it published no repeatability figure and no cycle-time benchmark alongside the payload and reach numbers, the pair of specs a buyer would need to line the AX6 up against Universal Robots' UR5e or a Fanuc cobot before ordering one. Neither the announcement nor The Robot Report's coverage says whether the AX6 works with NVIDIA's Isaac ROS robot-building tools, the software layer a growing share of factory integrators now build against before they pick an arm.
Epson has not said when, or whether, it will publish a price.
