Town Raises $108 Million at $1 Billion Four Months After Public Launch
Forerunner Ventures and Menlo Ventures co-led the Series B, and the only revenue disclosure is a seven-figure ARR with no baseline for the growth claims.

Town, a San Francisco startup that sells each employee an AI assistant called a Townie, raised a $108 million Series B at a $1 billion valuation, announced Monday, Oct. 19, according to The Next Web. TechCrunch reports the same round but gives no dollar valuation, only "unicorn".
Forerunner Ventures and Menlo Ventures co-led. Andreessen Horowitz and First Round Capital returned, with Serena Ventures, Better Tomorrow Ventures, Precedent.vc, Scribble Ventures and Sparked Ventures also in, per The Next Web, which also lists seven angels including Scott Belsky and Romain Huet. Neither article says whether $1 billion is pre-money or post-money, and that choice moves the price.
What the $1 billion implies
| If $1 billion is | Share the $108 million buys |
|---|---|
| Post-money | 10.8 percent |
| Pre-money | 9.7 percent |
Both figures are The Terminal's arithmetic, not the company's. Town's revenue disclosure is thinner than its valuation. TechCrunch says annual recurring revenue reached "millions of dollars in annual recurring revenue in a matter of weeks", and The Next Web calls it seven-figure, within weeks of the June launch. Seven figures means at most $9.99 million, so $1 billion is at least 100 times that revenue.
The comparable on this site is Even Healthcare's $300 million valuation, which worked out to 105 times filed revenue, but that figure came from a filing. Town's does not.
Growth claims without a base
The Next Web reports that since July paying customers have grown fourfold and paying teams ninefold, and that "thousands of businesses" use Townies daily, a figure it attributes to the founders' blog post. None of the three comes with a starting count. A ninefold rise from 10 teams and from 1,000 teams are different companies.
Total funding is "at least $160 million" in TechCrunch, which counts a $55 million Series A announced in June. The $55 million and the new $108 million add to $163 million, so the floor says nothing about any earlier money.

What a Townie connects to
Town's homepage says each Townie works through Gmail, Slack, Google Calendar, HubSpot, Notion and QuickBooks, and through any MCP server, a standard for plugging tools into an AI model. Routines run on a schedule or when something new arrives, such as inbox triage and morning summaries. The page says Town is SOC 2 Type 2 compliant, does not train models on customer data by default, and hosts in the United States on Convex and AWS. It lists no prices.
The new feature is Townies messaging each other and handing off work, and now dealing with customers and other outsiders. Jean-Denis Greze, Town's co-founder and chief executive and a former Plaid chief technology officer, said in the announcement: "AI has made each of us faster on our own. Now, it can make teams faster together." TechCrunch calls Town one of many AI assistants flooding the market and names none of the others. The Terminal's other recent AI-startup funding coverage includes Benchmark partners on rival conflicts at Factory and Cognition.
The ninefold growth in paying teams is the one falsifiable number in the announcement, and it will stay uncheckable until Town discloses a team count or a revenue figure.
