Arcee AI Raises Over $150 Million at a $1 Billion Valuation
Vista Equity Partners led the round for the open-weight model maker, though Fortune's account of whether the $1 billion figure is pre- or post-money differs from the company's own statement.

Arcee AI, a developer of open-weight language models, said Sept. 16 it raised a Series B led by Vista Equity Partners, Cambium Capital and Emergence Capital at a valuation above $1 billion. AI10 Ventures, Hitachi, IAG, Microsoft's M12 fund, P7 and Wipro also took part, according to the announcement.
Arcee did not disclose how much it raised. Fortune reported the amount at $150 million or more and described the $1 billion figure as a pre-money valuation, a distinction Arcee's own statement does not make. Mark McQuade, the company's co-founder and chief executive, previously worked at Hugging Face before starting Arcee in 2023.
What the money buys
Arcee says its entire 2025 model lineup, including a 400-billion-parameter model called Trinity Large, cost about $20 million to train, a figure McQuade told Fortune makes Arcee "the most efficient lab in the world based on what we've done." Trinity Large is a sparse mixture-of-experts model, a design that routes each token to a subset of the model's parameters rather than all of them, activating 13 billion of its 400 billion parameters per token. Arcee released the model's weights under the Apache 2.0 license, which permits unrestricted commercial use, alongside smaller Trinity Nano and Trinity Mini versions.
The company said the new funding will go toward training the next generation of Trinity models, work it describes as already underway, and toward Genesis-Science-1, an open model for scientific computing built with the U.S. Department of Energy and its 17 national laboratories under what Arcee calls the Genesis Open Models Initiative. No release date has been set for that model.

What the announcement does not settle
Arcee's statement calls the round a Series B that brings the company "to" a valuation above $1 billion without specifying whether that figure includes the new money. Monti Saroya, a senior managing director at Vista Equity Partners, said in the announcement that "Arcee has demonstrated a rare combination of technical execution and capital efficiency," a framing that fits a pre-money reading, since a post-money valuation on a $150 million raise against $1 billion pre-money would put the total closer to $1.15 billion, a figure neither the company nor Fortune gave directly.
Arcee's position sits alongside a broader reset in what investors will pay open-weight labs relative to what closed labs command: this month alone, DeepSeek shipped a 552-billion-parameter model without publishing VRAM requirements, and Snorkel AI tripled its own valuation in a separate round, both signs that investors are still pricing the open-weight side of the market unevenly. Arcee has not said when it expects to disclose Genesis-Science-1 or the exact size of the round that funds it.
