Anthropic's Knowledge-Work Plugins Have 28,300 Stars, a Datadog URL Due to Break and a Contribution Guide the CI Overrides
The 11-plugin repo is Apache-2.0 and trending. Its README asks for pull requests, a workflow closes them, and 76 issues sit open.
Anthropic's knowledge-work-plugins repository has 28.3k stars, 76 open issues and a README that invites pull requests the repository's own workflow closes automatically. One shipped connector also points at a Datadog endpoint that, according to an open issue, Datadog turns off on December 15, 2026.
The repo, anthropics/knowledge-work-plugins, is Apache-2.0 licensed and holds 11 role-based plugins: productivity, sales, customer-support, product-management, marketing, legal, finance, data, enterprise-search, bio-research and cowork-plugin-management. It had 3.2k forks, 1,070 commits and 57 open pull requests when read on October 10, and GitHub's trending list showed 709 stars gained that day.
What a plugin is, by the README's account
Each plugin bundles skills, connectors, slash commands and sub-agents for one job function, built for Claude Cowork and usable from Claude Code. The README says every component is "file-based — markdown and JSON, no code, no infrastructure, no build steps." Claude Code users install with claude plugin marketplace add anthropics/knowledge-work-plugins, then claude plugin install sales@knowledge-work-plugins.
The README is candid about limits: "These plugins are generic starting points. They become much more useful when you customize them for how your company actually works." The open issues show what customizing means in practice, because several of the problems are in the shipped files.
The engineering plugin's connector file
The engineering plugin's .mcp.json lists 10 connectors: Slack, Linear, Asana, Atlassian, Notion, GitHub, PagerDuty, Datadog, Google Calendar and Gmail. The last two have empty url fields. The Datadog entry is https://mcp.datadoghq.com/api/unstable/mcp-server/mcp.
Issue 1279, opened October 5 by the user cru-Luis-Rodriguez, says Datadog emailed organisation admins that day that it will shut off /api/unstable/mcp-server/* on December 15, 2026. The issue proposes the stable https://mcp.datadoghq.com/v1/mcp and says only the URL changes, with credentials, scopes and tool names staying the same. The reporter tested both addresses with an unauthenticated request and got 401 from each, so both were live on October 5.
This is single-source. Datadog's MCP setup page does not mention the shutoff or give a URL, and says only that the server "is under significant development." The issue had no comments or assignee when read, and the file still carried the unstable URL.
A README that sends outsiders to a closed door
Issue 1181, filed September 17, quotes README line 80: "Plugins are just markdown files. Fork the repo, make your changes, and submit a PR." The workflow close-external-prs.yml closes pull requests from non-members with a message saying the repo "only accepts contributions from Anthropic team members."
The issue's evidence is concrete. Pull request 1180, a 13-file change removing the empty Gmail and Google Calendar URLs from 12 plugins, was auto-closed 14 seconds after it was opened. The issue author notes that only an additions-only edit to .claude-plugin/marketplace.json survives the guard. That is also why the Datadog reporter filed an issue, not the one-line fix.
The issues disagree on the empty-URL count. Issue 933 says 12 plugins ship empty Gmail and Calendar URLs while CONNECTORS.md lists them as included. Issue 1181 counts 14 .mcp.json files with empty entries and says a CI check skips them on purpose as "placeholders awaiting config."
Bugs in the content itself
| Issue | Filed | Plugin | Report |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1286 | Oct 7 | finance | Dollar amounts in SKILL.md are replaced by command arguments, so $0.00 becomes "cash.00" |
| 1283 | Oct 7 | finance | Skills document slash commands the plugin does not ship: /je, /sox, /flux |
| 1095 | Sep 9 | productivity | dashboard.html forgets the TASKS.md and memory folder on every reload |
| 488 | Jul 5 | Gmail connector | send_email tool missing although the gmail.send OAuth scope is requested |
Only the issue authors have described these, and none was marked fixed or confirmed by maintainers on the pages read. The finance one matters most for a plugin aimed at reconciliation, since a figure silently rewritten inside instructions is hard to spot in a long session.
How to read a 28,000-star repo with 76 open issues
The structure is a template library maintained by Anthropic staff, with outside input routed through a submission form. That fits the README's "generic starting points" framing, and it explains why connectors age: nobody outside can send the fix. The same dynamic runs through this site's earlier reporting on skills collections and malware risk and on Addy Osmani's skills repo.
Anyone installing a plugin should open its .mcp.json first, because the connector URLs there decide what the agent can reach. The date to watch is December 15, when the Datadog change, if Datadog's email is as described, breaks the engineering plugin's monitoring tools for everyone still on the unstable path.
