BYD Atto 8 Brings 115 kWh and Nine-Minute Charging to Europe, With a Catch
The seven-seater's 10 to 97% charge needs BYD's own stations, and outlets disagree on the 5-minute figure.

BYD showed the European Atto 8 at the Paris Motor Show on October 12, 2026: a seven-seat SUV with a 115 kWh second-generation Blade battery and a charging claim of 10 to 97% in nine minutes. Autoevolution reports that the speed works only at BYD's proprietary stations, and none of the coverage found for this piece gives a peak charging power or a price.
BYD Executive Vice President Stella Li presented the car, CarNewsChina reported. European sales start in the first quarter of 2027. This piece relies on those two outlets and Electrek; a BYD press page for the model was not available, so every figure below is as reported, not checked against the maker.
Two versions, 764 hp at the top
Both variants use the 115 kWh pack. Range figures differ by drivetrain, and the 405 miles quoted for the rear-drive car equals the 653 km WLTP figure CarNewsChina gives.
| Variant | Power | 0 to 62 mph | Range |
|---|---|---|---|
| Design RWD | 456 hp (340 kW) | 8.0 s | 405 miles |
| Excellence AWD | 764 hp (570 kW) | 4.6 s | 374 miles |
The car is 5,040 mm long, 1,996 mm wide and 1,760 mm tall, with a 2,950 mm wheelbase, a 136-litre frunk and a 2+3+2 layout in Europe, per CarNewsChina.
The charging claim and its footnotes
BYD's summary, as autoevolution quotes it, is "ready in 5, full in 9, cold add 3". The sources disagree on the first leg. Autoevolution gives 10 to 70% in 5 minutes. CarNewsChina gives 19 to 70%. Electrek says 10 to 80%.
All three agree on 10 to 97% in 9 minutes, and on cold weather adding time: 20 to 97% takes 12 minutes at -30°C, per autoevolution.
The denominator matters. Ten to 97% of 115 kWh is about 100 kWh. In 9 minutes that is an average near 667 kW, and the 10 to 70% leg in 5 minutes implies about 828 kW. Those are derived figures: no source gives a peak power for the European car.

- 10 to 97% in 9 min667 kW

Where the chargers are: 3,000 or 6,000
The network is the constraint. Autoevolution says BYD plans 3,000 flash stations across Europe by the end of 2027. CarNewsChina says 6,000 flash chargers in foreign countries by the same date. The figures can both be true, since one is Europe and the other is everywhere outside China, but neither source says so.
For comparison, NIO's 1.19 million battery swaps around China's National Day came from a network that already exists. BYD's European one is a 14-month target.
Price and what the Chinese car sold
No European price has been announced. The reference point is the Tang, BYD's current European seven-seater, listed at €75,000 in Germany and cut to €47,990, according to CarNewsChina, which cites BYD's website.
The Atto 8 is sold in China as the Tang L, from 222,800 to 272,800 yuan. CarNewsChina cites China EV DataTracker for 4,426 deliveries from January to August 2026, down 87.5% from a year earlier. BYD's electric semi is a separate story, covered here.
The next number to watch is the European price, due before first-quarter 2027 deliveries.
