BMW Starts iX3 Deliveries Nine Days Early as Debrecen Adds a Shift

BMW dealers began delivering the 2027 iX3 50 xDrive on Sept. 16, nine days ahead of the Sept. 25 date BMW had set for the U.S. launch, Electrek reported, citing a dealer notification distributed the day before. The electric SUV, BMW's first U.S. model built on its new Neue Klasse architecture, starts at $61,500 plus a $1,350 destination charge, BMW's own pricing announcement says.

A Sept. 15 dealer notice authorized showrooms to begin selling and delivering the car starting the next day, though actual handover dates still depend on individual vehicle arrival and dealer readiness, BMWBLOG reported. Neither outlet's report includes a named BMW executive attributing the early start to a specific decision-maker; both cite the dealer communication itself as the source.

What $61,500 buys before the tax credit disappears

The 50 xDrive trim pairs a 108.7-kilowatt-hour battery with two motors producing 463 horsepower and 476 pound-feet of torque, reaching 60 mph in 4.7 seconds, according to BMWBLOG's review of the specification sheet. BMW's own release puts EPA-estimated range at up to 434 miles on the smallest available wheels, falling to 383 miles on larger options, and says the car's 800-volt architecture supports up to 400 kilowatts of DC fast charging, adding 185 miles of range in about 10 minutes. Standard equipment includes the Panoramic iDrive display system and BMW Operating System X across every configuration; no lower-cost single-motor variant has been announced for the U.S. market.

The plant that outran its own schedule

BMW's Debrecen, Hungary factory, the Neue Klasse's sole production site, had already built its 50,000th unit by the end of July, BMWBLOG reported, and the company added a third production shift there to keep pace with orders after a second shift had gone in only months earlier. BMW has taken more than 100,000 iX3 orders globally since the car's European launch in March 2026, and BMWBLOG reports the iX3 now accounts for one in every three BMW EV orders placed in Europe, a share no other single BMW electric model has reached. BMW has described Debrecen's ramp as the fastest of any new plant in the company's history, per BMWBLOG, though BMW has not published a comparison plant or timeframe backing that claim.

What the early start doesn't tell you

Neither BMW nor its dealer network has said how many iX3 units are actually en route to the U.S. or sitting on dealer lots, which means "deliveries began early" describes a start date, not a volume. A car can begin shipping ahead of schedule and still arrive in showrooms slowly if the single Debrecen line is stretched across European and U.S. demand at the same time. BMW also has not disclosed how the iX3's price compares to the outgoing iX, leaving buyers to work out for themselves whether the Neue Klasse generation is a better deal than the model it replaces. That kind of direct price comparison is easier to make on Royal Enfield's electric motorcycle launch, which priced the same model at very different levels in India and Europe rather than leaving the gap to be inferred. The 800-volt charging architecture BMW is using here is the same basic approach Hyundai has bet on for the Staria Electric van, a sign that the industry's fast-charging standard has converged even as sticker prices and body styles have not.

The number worth watching next is not the delivery date but the order backlog: if BMW's 100,000-order figure keeps growing faster than Debrecen's third shift can clear it, the delivery timeline BMW just moved up nine days could slip back the other way before the end of the year.
