Anthropic Deletes Claude for Financial Advisors, a Week After Launch
The plugin launched Sept. 14 with Schwab and BlackRock as connectors, and a second finance plugin Anthropic cut Sept. 11 still has no public explanation.

Anthropic deleted its Claude for Financial Advisors plugin from the anthropics/financial-services repository on Sept. 21, one week after launching it, according to the pull request that merged the change. The pull request, opened by Anthropic engineer hhai-ant and merged by tobinsouth, carries no description beyond "Delete the financial advisors directory in anthropics/financial-services." The only review comment on it, from a second Anthropic contributor, reads "Yy👍."
Anthropic had introduced Claude for Financial Advisors on Sept. 14 as a plugin connecting Claude to platforms advisors already use, including Charles Schwab, BlackRock, Envestnet, Vanguard and SS&C Black Diamond, covering tasks such as onboarding, compliance pre-checks, portfolio rebalance review and post-meeting notes. Peter Nolan, Anthropic's head of asset and wealth management, told WealthManagement.com the plugin was meant to cut into the roughly five-sixths of a typical advisory practice's time that goes to preparation and follow-up rather than client meetings, a figure Anthropic attributed to research firm Kitces. "Our goal is to drive utilization in the advisor stack today," Nolan said. "Think of us as a symphony conductor."
A second plugin went first
The financial-advisors deletion was not the repository's first cut this month. A pull request merged Sept. 11 removed a separate wealth-management plugin outright, also with no description in the pull request. That plugin had offered a /financial-plan feature and a portfolio-rebalancing workflow that, according to a GitHub issue opened Sept. 23 by a user identified as rohitberia, the user relied on regularly and that the Financial Advisors plugin does not replace, since Financial Advisors targets registered advisors under SEC Marketing Rule and Regulation Best Interest checks rather than the simpler workflow the older plugin served.

What is still live, and what is not
The standalone anthropics/claude-for-financial-advisors repository still exists and remains installable, but its README now describes it as a "reference implementation" that is "not actively maintained or monitored, and not accepting contributions." The issue opener said other Financial Services plugins, including Equity Research and Earnings Reviewer, are still working normally, so the removals appear limited to the advisor- and wealth-facing tools rather than the whole product line.
Anthropic has not commented publicly on either removal, and as of publication no Anthropic account had replied to the Sept. 23 issue. The launch put Anthropic in the same narrow slice of the finance market as OpenAI's own ChatGPT for Financial Services, which launched four days earlier with Morgan Stanley and Evercore as design partners, and it followed Anthropic chief executive Dario Amodei's own public warnings about deploying AI agents faster than they can be safely managed. Anthropic did not say whether Financial Advisors will return in a different form.
